The safe, well-known
everyday life is being disturbed, and the patients lose their opportunity to
have a normal youth, either periodically or permanently. Childhood cancer
survivors narrate that their cancer survival is characterized by positive words to rhetorical symbolize that the individual has beaten cancer: a success or a
victory. Surviving cancer are rarely without physical, mental and social late
effects. The survival has an underexposed downside: the risk of a life with severe
late effects that is significant for the survivors and have great consequences
for their ability to be a part of and contribute to society.
This article present sub results from the empirical qualitative Ph.D.-project
Social Consequences of Childhood Cancer including qualitative interviews and
observational studies. The study exposes some of the social consequences of
childhood cancer that occur post-cancer based on the perspective of 23 survivors
(aged 18-39). In addition, Erwing Goffman's and Aaron Antonovskys
theories of stigma and performance, as well as other relevant research literature,
are used to discuss and substantiate the consequences caused by late
effects described by child cancer survivors.
Line Thoft Carlsen Copyright (c) 2020 Dansk Sociologi https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/dansksociologi/article/view/6343 Tue, 08 Sep 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Co-creation and co-production: An interdisciplinary conceptual exploration https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/dansksociologi/article/view/6344
In recent years, the two concepts of co-creation and co-production have become
key in project organization in the private and the public sectors in Denmark.
Yet, the conceptual and practical implications of the two concepts remain
unclear. Are they just a new tool that harnesses volunteerism to cut process
costs? This paper uses the results from a systematic literature search to
explore the interdisciplinary history of the two concepts. Co-production was
coined in political economy to study infrastructure and societal redistribution
of resources. Co-creation emerged in the literature on user-led innovation
and product development. The two concepts are translated into one word in
Danish, samskabelse. The literature search shows that the Danish concept of
samskabelse was used in two specific research fields before the more recent
surge of the concept began: in systems theoretical psychology and in anthropological
research on indigenous peoples’ religions. From these four fields of
origin, the paper suggests four basic assumptions in samskabelse: 1) Attention
to resources is necessary to understand incentives, 2) shared creativity leads
to innovation, 3) any collaboration is a system of relations, and 4) any collaboration
is situated in the contexts of all the partners. In conclusion, the paper
discusses how co-production and co-creation may be useful when partners
from different sectors or disciplines wish to collaborate.
Ella Paldam Copyright (c) 2020 Dansk Sociologi https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/dansksociologi/article/view/6344 Tue, 08 Sep 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Struggle for Recognition versus Communicative Action – A Comparative analysis of the concept of praxis in Honneths and Habermas’ political philosophy and political sociology https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/dansksociologi/article/view/6345
The concept of praxis is one of the most fundamental concepts in political
philosophy and political sociology from Antiquity to our time.
Aristotle creates a concept of praxis, which is one of the fundamental concepts
in political philosophy and political sociology. Hegel gives the concept
a new formation with his concept of praxis as Sittlichkeit or Ethical Life. Both
Habermas and Honneth take their point of departure in the young Hegel’s
scriptures, when they try to formulate a new concept of praxis, which can be
relevant for our time.
In a smart maneuver, Habermas places language as a substitute for Hegel’s
concept of the spirit. On this basis, Habermas succeeds in formulating
a practical political philosophy, which can unite praxis and Ethical Life in a
theory of communicative action. Habermas’ political philosophy leads immediately
to a political sociology, which can be the basis for an empirical sociological
exploration of the institutions of modern society.
Honneth is critical towards Habermas’ linguistic form of political sociology.
Honneth wants to sustain classical critical theory’s substantial perspective.
He focusses on Hegel’s concept of struggle for recognition, which he places
in a modern democratic perspective. Honneths political sociology forms
the basis for an empirical research in conflicts and violations in the institutions
of society.
Øjvind Larsen Copyright (c) 2020 Dansk Sociologi https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/dansksociologi/article/view/6345 Tue, 08 Sep 2020 00:00:00 +0000 Problemet med ikke-vestlige indvandrere https://rauli.cbs.dk/index.php/dansksociologi/article/view/6346 Lisbeth B.
