Mary Polito, University of Calgary

Mary Polito is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Calgary. Her research is in the field of sixteenth and seventeenth-century English drama. Her book, Governmental Arts in Early Tudor England (2004), is a study of drama, performance and the law in the reign of Henry VIII. Recent work addresses the contemporary appropriation of Shakespeare by the business self-help industry as well as the representation of professions and professionalization in Shakespeare's own time and work. She is part of a research team at the University of Calgary that is studying a newly discovered anonymous, untitled, seventeenth-century play manuscript held by the University of Calgary Special Collections (in the Osborne collection of rare books and manuscripts).
