Managementideer som en virus – hvad består det organisatoriske immunsystem af?

På baggrund af Røviks virusteori (2007, 2011), virologi (Cann, 2005) og Morgans metafor for organisationer som organismer (1986), udvikler denne artikel organisatorisk virusteori til at omfatte, hvordan det organisatoriske immunforsvar fungerer. Virusteori er teorier om organisatorisk udvikling, der udforsker systemiske og politiske påvirkninger, der ændrer organisationernes livsforløb, deres praksis og eksistensberettigelse. Artiklen har tre bidrag til virusteori. For det første gør den sig nogle refleksioner om alle ideer om styring og ledelse er lige sunde for organisationer og undersøger, hvilke effekter management ideer har på organisationer. Derved bygger den videre på en tidligere artikel om strategi som virus (Obed Madsen, 2011), men udvider perspektivet ved konceptuelt at undersøge, hvordan immunforsvaret fungerer, når virussen er trængt ind i organismen. For det andet udforsker artiklen, hvilke forsvar som organisationer har mod skadelige ideer. For det tredje gør artiklen sig overvejelser om, hvordan immunforsvaret kan vedligeholdes, så vi kan sikre os sunde organisationer. Virusteori giver derfor et nyt perspektiv på et gammelt fænomen, der handler om organisatorisk udvikling og kan udfordre og kvalificere grundlæggende antagelser om management-ideer. Virusteori supplerer dermed dele af den institutionelle teori, der anser management ideer som et modefænomen, hvor det er muligt at undgå, at ideerne får en påvirkning på organisationens praksis. Denne artikels udgangspunkt er det modsatte: at ideer påvirker vores organisationer, fordi det ikke altid er muligt at dekoble sig fra dem. De inficerer os, muterer, går i dvale, inkuberer og spreder sig, hvilket har konsekvenser for vores praksis. Ligesom virus, så er det ikke alle ideer, der er godartede, og derfor bør vi overveje, hvordan vores organisatoriske immunsystem virker, samt hvordan det kan vedligeholdes.
